I have posted this problem to Brandmeister, but have not received a solution, so I will try here.

The problem is that trying to send an SMS message to Brandmeister's echo function via radio through the Openspot does not work. I should mention that the system works for voice comms. I am testing with both an MD-2017 and an AT-D868.

1. If I send the message echo to private address 262993 using the Openspot's web interface with "intercept" checked and "network" checked, I get the acknowledge message as expected.

2. If I send with the "intercept" unchecked and "network" checked, the message does not come back to the radio. The Openspot does try to transmit -- the red light comes on -- and the radio indicates a signal being received, but the radio does not transmit an ack, and no message gets through. The radio, Openspot, and sourceid are all set to the same number, though the situation remians the same if I set, on the connector page, the Openspot's DMR id to a different number. This is all after clicking the relevant "save" buttons. Also not the both "send no in band data" buttons are UNCHECKED.

3. If I send a message directly to the radio from the web interface using "modem", the message gets through. If I send using "netowrk", and "intercept" unchecked, the message never gets through, and the Openspot's red light never comes on, so it is not trying to connect with the radio. This happens whether the DMR id is the same or different from the radio. I have to use the "UDP" setting as ETSI doesn't work, and UDP/Chinese sends the message 3 times.

4. If I send the echo message from the radio to Brandmeister, the radio keeps truying to send the message and eventually times out. The red light on the Openspot does come on, and the status page indicated that Brandmeister is trying to connect with the radio (to 3153580 from 262993 private message) but it eventually gives up. If I do this with the "intercept" checked, the ack message does come back to the web interface, though the radio keeps showing the "sending message" screen until it times out.

I have tried just about every combination of settings I can think of, and can't make any progress with it. Does this actually work for anyone, and if so, can you share your settings? Any other ideas where the problem might be? Thanks in advance.
