Can an external power supply rated 5v max output 1a be used with the open spot 2
vocoder
Yes. From the manual:
Power supply: 5 V DC through the USB port
Power consumption:
Max. 150 mA @ 5 V (0.75 W)
Avg. 115 mA @ 5 V (0.575 W)
Avg. 65mA @ 5 V (0.325 W) with enabled powersaving

In case there is any confusion:
Max. 150 mA = .15 amp
Avg. 115 mA = .115 amp
Avg. 65mA = .065 amp (with enabled powersaving)

Good point. And to simplify it even more: 1 ampere (A) = 1000 milliamperes (mA). So a 5V wall charger providing 1A of current provides about 6 times (1000/150=6.667) the power an openSPOT2 needs at maximum power consumption.
