I received my OpenSpot 2 yesterday and have it set up and working OK using the web interface. I can’t seem to connect or control it sending commands from my Icom 5100. Prior to getting the OpenSpot I used a DVAP and that connects to repeaters or reflectors using the radio. The same settings do not seem to work with the OpenSpot.
I guess I have something configured wrong, probably in the UR or call sign settings. Is there an idiot guide online somewhere I can look at to check my own settings against?

I should have included in my original post the DVAP is connected to a Raspberry Pi running the MAryland D-star software.

Problem solved. Misunderstood what the manual was saying, it does what I wanted but a different way to I was expecting.

Dave,
There are two ways to operate DStar with Openspot 2. One is in DV simplex mode. In that mode you must simply change the UR field on radio to change the reflectors. It is kind of clunky, but it works. The other way is in DR mode and programming the frequency as a repeater with no offset. This requires you insert it into radios DStar repeater list with RPT 1 as your callsign with the letter B at the end for UHF. In RPT 2 you must program it to your call with letter G at the end for Gateway. The DR mode is harder to set up on radio, but it's much easier changing reflectors on some radios in DR Mode, than manually typing reflectors in DV mode. I hope what I said makes sense.

cq2meters apologies for the delay in replying I was out of town on business. That does make sense and throws further light on what I was doing wrong. I have the simplex mode working now but I had the methods mixed together and originally was only using just simplex. I'll give the DR mode a try.
Thanks for the reply it has helped me understand my confusion.

@ cq2meters: Thank you very much for the info about DR mode!
I changed to DR mode, which was quite easy to program with my RT Systems
cable and had my first D-Star QSO with the openspot2.
