Hello:
I am very new to YSF and Wires-X. Just got an FT-2DR and have it linked to one of my OpenSpot's.
I just discivered with new firmware and an expensive cable and link the Radio via a computer to Wires-X directly, no "hotspot" involved. So, not knowing what capabilities I have through the OS2 yet, I am asking the experts out there if OpenSpot 2 will do everything or close to that the Personal Digital Mode will do?
I heard a brief QSO today that indocated that you don;t get access to the complete "Wires-X list of rooms with a "hotspot". I know the latest firmware for the OS2 supports Wires-X but is it fully functional like a PDN or using a HSI-200 Wires-X box?
Thanks in advance.... Lots of learning to do.

You can do far more with an openSPOT2. It supports multiple protocols and cross modem modes.
However, the openSPOT2 can't connect directly to Yaesu's proprietary Wires-X network, but there are several YSFReflectors you can use which are already linked to the Wires-X network.

Thanks Nonoo. I am VERY happy with the OS2. Its fast, flexible and has the capability to keep me busy for a while. (I also have 3 OS1's).
So, I will make the assumption that I can access some (or all) of the Wires-X rooms from a YSF radio when my OS2 is linked to a reflector that is also linked to Wires-X rooms. If so, that would be great for me.
My real quesation is - Do I need to buy the SCU19 or SCM20 cable and dedicate a radio to get fill Wires-X functionality? I'd really prefer not to and just use the OS2. So, knowing what limitations I'll have is important.
Thank you,
Kevin.

Kevin,
Watch this video from SharkRF.

I did and I love the new features of working from the radio. I’ve saved a bunch of rooms on the radio and switch between them just by touching the screen.
Have fun

Perfect, Thank you.
I really did not want to jumo into more propriatory stuff and like the OS1 and 2 greatly. I wonder if the Wires-X will every come to the OS1? I think I read that it will not. Oh well
Have a great evening.

Kevin,
I think SharkRF has something good happening here. I have 1 OS1 and 2 OS2s. They are always bringing in new features in OS2 and have great customer support.
I enjoy mine everyday that I can get on the radio.

Kevin,
THe OS2 will give you access to the rooms that are available on the YSF and FCS Reflectors which is a good variety of rooms like America Link, America Ragchew, many rooms for eacxh individual state, as well as other country's rooms. It will Not, however, allow you to access rooms directly. For example, if you have a local Fusion repeater that has it's own room but that room is not available on either a YSF or FCS reflector, you would not be able to access it. Using the FT-2DR's PDN mode will allow you to access every room on the WIRES-X system, not just those on a YSF or FCS Reflector. To use the PDN mode of the radio you would need the WIRES-X software running on a compatible PC, would need to register the radio's ID with Yaesu to get a Node ID Issued to you, and you would need the SCU-19 or SCU-20 cable (which ever one came with the radio is the one you need.) This is the bare minimum. By using the radio in PDN mode with only the SCU interface cable and not the connection kit cable that splits the audio in/out off from the port on the radio you will be able to access only WIRES-X rooms that are set to be "Digital ONLY" rooms meaning that if a room is an open room (allows both analog and digital users) you would have to have the kit that supplies the cable that splits the audio out so that you can pipe the audio through your PC. If all the software installation, configuration, and node registration seems too daunting for you, or you simply find what you are looking for by going through the OS2, then I would say save your money and use the OS2. I have a WIRES-X room, HRI-200 Node, and am waiting on my PDN Node registration to come through and am loving the options avail;able to me using WIRES-X through my OS2 and with the ability to select servers and rooms using the touch screen on my FTM-400XDR I can control the OS2 to make the connections I want and switch OS2 configuration profiles right from the touch screen. As Nonoo said there are a ton of options (like cross-mode operation into the Brandmeister or DMR-MARC DMR networks) going through the OS2 you won't have using PDN mode. To sum it up...I'm not sure I will be using the PDN mode very much now that I have been playing around with the OS2 and it's use of the WIRES-X feature of my radios...Most of what I use on WIRES-X is available through either an FCS or YSF reflector.

Speaking specifically in the fusion world: The OSP2 can utilize the wiresx button and bring up a wires like interface but it is not wiresx. Wiresx is a proprietary system owned and operated by Yaesu. The only way to access it is from a Wiresx node. YSF and FCS on the other hand are open source protocols available to anyone. I'm actually working on a video explaining the differences between them.

Bob:
Thanks for the follow-up explanation. I think your video's are great and I am subscribed. I am new to the YSF and Wires-X world. I specifically jumped in so I had the full complement of digital (DRM, DStar and YSF). I will probably have enough access via OS2 but if I find myself needing more, I'll look at getting a FTM-400 as the Wires-X node. Its only money, right
Seems like the radios and required cables are hard to get right now so I'll learn and play with what I have via OS2.
FYI - I am just up the hill from you in Clipper Gap.
Kevin.
