What voice announcements are available? I only seem to get profile announcement and connected to server and talkgroup on boot-up of the Openspot 2. I also get the disconnected announcement when I do a 4000 groupcall on my CS800D but not when I use my CS750. I do have TG9 in my receive group for all my Openspot channels in both radios.
Should I get a voice announcement each time I connect to a new talkgroup?

You wont get an announcement when you bring up another talkgroup. But you can do a Group 9998 to the OS2 and it also tell you what dynamic TG you are connected to (as well as the server which you know already).
It would be nice to have just a special TG for groups only without the whole speech of what server. If I wanted to program a hot key to key up that one TG just so I can see what I am connected to while driving...thats a nice little future feature.
But then again...I could set up a hot key for 9998 and that will do the same thing...just a little long winded

You can shorten the BM announcement on the Settings page, at Voice announcements section, "Shortened BrandMeister announcement" setting.

Wonder why I am only getting the 4000 disconnect announcement on my CS800D but not my CS750? Pretty sure I have both code plugs programmed the same.

Check if you have TG9 in the RX group list assigned for the active channel on your radio.
W5hj
Of course the active channel that I usually have the radio on is 4000 unless I am using the web interface 4000 quick call. I am sure that I have TG9 in the recieve group for that channel and if I have the radio set to the 4000 channel when I boot the Openspot 2 up I hear the usual announcements. Plus no matter what channel I am on when I do a 4000 quick call from the web interface I don’t hear an announcement.
I do get a PNW 1 private call on the screen of my Cs750 whatever that means when do a 4000 either from my radio or the web interface.

The openSPOT2 does not respond to calls going to ID 4000, as the openSPOT2 does not handle talkgroup/reflector linking - the network does it. Usually the BrandMeister Network sends a voice announcement back to your radio as a private call. I don't know if other networks respond to calls to 4000.

I am on the Brandmeister network so I guess the voice reponse that I am getting on my CS800D is coming from BM and not the Openspot 2? Strange that I don’t get the same on my CS750. Maybe it has to do with the firmware version in my CS750 which is older than what’s in my CS800D. I will give Connect Systems a call today. They like SharkRF give excellent customer support which is the reason i use both companies products.
Thank you,
HA2NON
Please keep in mind that BM responds the voice announcement in a private call. If you use the Quick Call on the openSPOT2 web interface then the openSPOT2 will use the DMR ID you've set at the Homebrew connector settings as the quick call's source ID. BM will reply with a private call to this ID and if it's different than your radio's current DMR ID then the radio won't open the squelch.
W5hj
Radio ID and Homebrew connector ID are both 3140139 which is the only ID I have registered for my call sign W5HJ.
I talked to Cris at Connect Systems and he wasn’t even aware the BM had a voice announcement for a 4000 disconnect and had never heard one. Of course I know it exists because I hear it on my CS800D.
So the mystery continues. I can live without the disconnect voice announcement but it would be nice to hear it to confirm that I had been disconnected from the talk group.
Thanks again for your help,
HA2NON
Both your radios have to be set to DMR ID 3140139.
Have you tried calling 4000 directly from your radios, without using Quick Call?
W5hj
Yes both of my radios are set to 3140139 as well as my Openspot 2 and I have tried to do the 4000 disconnect with both the radios as well as the Openspot 2 quick call. While all methods do in fact accomplish a disconnect from talkgroups and there is an indication of a private call on the radio screen of PNW 1 and the Openspot 2 red light flashes, only on the CS800D do I hear the disconnected message.
I have checked and rechecked my code plugs to see if there are any differences. I am very experienced at programming code plugs as I have programmed many for hams here in Oklahoma for both Connect Systems and TYT radios. Also I bought an Openspot when they first came out and used it quite a bit early on although I never used the voice announcement features which I believe came out on later verisions of firmware. That doesn’t mean I could not be looking over something.
For the last year or so I wasn’t doing much traveling so my Openspot just sat in the shelf since local repeaters met my needs. I bought the Openspot 2 in because i plan on hitting the road more. Matter of fact I just returned from a trip to Daytona, Fl and the Openspot 2 worked great.

I now have the disconnect voice announcement working on my CS750.
Since the voice announcement is a 4000 private call I added a 4000 private call that I named 4000 PRIV to my contacts list. My 4000 group call is named 4000 DISC. Just for drill I also attempted to add 4000 PRIV to my recieve group list but I would only let me add 4000 DISC for some reason so I added it.
Anyway I was then able to hear the voice announcement (not linked). Then I removed 4000 DISC from the recieve group list to see if it still worked and it did. So it appears that simply adding a 4000 private call to my contacts list did the trick.
BTW the code plug for my CS800D only has the 4000 group call in the contacts list yet it still receives the not linked voice announcement.

Seems like the transceiver does not open the squelch for private calls coming from a source ID which is not in the contacts list. Maybe there's a setting for that in the transceiver's CPS.
W5hj
Maybe there is but I was unable to find it. Anyway it is working now, so I will stick to my motto which is “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.’
