IP address announcement

Why would my openSPOT2 be announcing its IP address in the middle of a QSO? It's happened twice in the last 30 minutes.

Probably your internet connection isn't stable.

Wow! I just spoke with you on the air tonight. What are the odds of that?
I think you're correct. I have come to the conclusion that it's probably interference from nearby neighbors on the 2.4Ghz wireless band. There are only three usable channels on 2.4Ghz WiFi. And I have about 20 networks in range of my house because our neighborhood is so dense.
Too bad the openSPOT won't do 5Ghz wireless. Anyway, I moved the openSPOT to where it's only about two feet away from my wireless router. That should fix the interference problem.

Welcome you to the forum Elden! You may not know this, please set the WIFI channel to 1 or 6 or 11. Why? Read this description!

Welcome you to the forum Elden! You may not know this, please set the WIFI channel to 1 or 6 or 11. Yes, and that's the problem with 2.4Ghz wireless. Only 3 usable channels. In my dense neighborhood, that makes interference a big problem. The 5Ghz wireless does not have this problem.
I would very much like the next openSPOT to either have an ethernet port or 5Ghz wireless for this very reason.

This is the problem with 2.4 spread spectrum wifi, keep in mind most 802.11xx routers transmit close to 5 channels wide. As previously posted living in a densely populated area of 2.4 ghz signals can be problematic at best.
Scan your neighborhood for wifi signals and select the one with the weakest signal strength.
The place the OS2 as close as possible to the wifi router....
