Does anyone have a step by step for settings on the 4100a for openspot2 ? Just getting started with digital and there has to be something I'm missing setting this radio up. I've went in to the repeater list and added the openspot but there's something i'm doing wrong utter fail on connecting --I have my DMR radio setup and it's working fine....something I'm missing.

Use the Quick Setup to connect the openSPOT2 to a server. You can test the connection between your transceiver and the OS2 by using the openSPOT2's built-in echo feature.

If you have a typical Icom configuration there will be both repeaters and nodes.
Check the settings for a pre-configured node and edit yours to be similar. Note the duplex and 0 offset setting.Call it “Shark OS” and give the lat/long coordinates of your home.
When calling you need to “use reflector”, not “CQCQCQ”. Also you can’t usually just select a simplex frequency and DV, it needs to be programmed as a duplex channel.

i think thats where I'm having problems --- in the add repeater menu unless its setup as duplex it wont show up in the digital repeater list but will if i switch over to analog---Sorry new ham here and this is my first shot at digital. Had to go with a hotspot because no local repeaters. The openspot settings look good and it says its connected but there is something I'm messing up programming the radio to connect to the openspot
thanks for the patience (took me three nights to get the DMR working) but I'm having alot of fun learning and trying to figure it out as I go along

Think if you look for the digital nodes and add a similar one, with your details, it should be in the right place.
Sorry, not at home so can’t pull up the programming software to help.
It’s a refreshing change to come across someone programming their own kit. Sadly many take the easy route and take it to someone else. Programming radios and hotspots isn’t hard, you just need to be methodical and save files with version control... you can revert to an earlier version if you mess up.

exactly what I've been doing --noting what changes I've made and what didn't work until I get it figured out--the openspot was the easy part, programming the radios is what has proved a little tougher, it took me two nights after work to figure how to program the rd-5r i bought for DMR and get it working but it's been fun figuring it all out..setting up the 4100 so that it uses the openspot in place of a repeater has me a bit stumped so lacking anything online specific to the 4100 I thought I'd try here. I saw some youtube videos of people using this radio with an openspot2 but no information on how they set it up.
thanks again for assistance

Hi Lee
I’m home for the moment, and quite busy for the next couple of days. I have an ID51 and an ID5100, I guess your 4100 will be similar.
With the Icom programming tool (CS-4100?), under digital\repeater list, find UK_DV_Nodes (or whatever is appropriate for simplex digital nodes).
You should find several. Add another as type “DV Repeater”, name it Shark, sub name Node, Repeater callsign of your callsignD (D being the last character), Gateway callsign of your callsignG, frequency 433.9000 (or whatever your Shark is), -DUP, Offset Freq 0.0000, Mode DV, tones blank, Use Yes, position is your lat/long.
Hope that fixes it!

BINGO! thanks for that ! saved me a whole lot of experiment ing tonight !! So I have my DMR and D-star setup now just one more to go with my ft991a on fusion. This is the most fun i've had in a long time and after just getting licensed back in May everyone I've met in the ham community both on the air and at the hamfests my wife and I have gone to have been great and so helpful with the newbie.
have a great night!

My issue is similar to this...I am connected to my Openspot2 with no problems. In the To field, I try to select the Reflector item, but nothing happens. I hear QSOs fine and have been able to transmit, but I have to change to a different reflector through the web browser's connectors page but I'd like to do that on the radio. Appreciate any help someone might have. I'm on an ID 51 Plus 2 but I think the programming should be the same.

Thank you Norbert. This wasn't what I thought I was going to have to do, but it worked! I used the DTMF characters with *1c and *030C to test. It always switched to 1c but it seemed intermittent going back to another reflector. As you can guess, it is something I would want to do when I'm not sitting at a web browser to change reflectors at the Connectors page.
Only one thing remains and that is how to tell I am on the reflector I chose from the transceiver alone? Not only because it seemed intermittent, but I may have typed it incorrectly. I'm thinking through to the time when the OS2 is connected to my phone or maybe a guest Wifi and not want to bother with the browser.
Thanks again. The Openspot2 was remarkably easy to set up...learning to use it with the radio has been a bit of a learning curve.

Thanks again, Norbert. I did not understand DTMF, but now I see many uses for it and it's quick to use.
