I'm looking for a technical description of how the Bit Error Rate calculation is performed on the OpenSpot2 -- what method is used here?
My past experience with BER measurements required a known pattern being transmitted and a bit by bit comparison being done on the receive side to then determine the BER of the communications channel; this was not performed on live traffic - but during a test process. (In the commercial world, we commonly used a QRSS / quasi-random signal source to do this.) What is the 'known pattern' being used for BER measurement during a
live
(random voice) transmission, and is this a true bit by bit comparison or a statistical sampling?
Also am I to assume that this is a BER measurement
only
for the local
"radio transmitter to hotspot receiver"
path, not the reverse -- or for any other segment of the network?
Thank you for any insight here...

BER is calculated the following way: all FEC protected bit fields are calculated to find out which bits are changed, and these fields are compared to the originally received ones to find out the number of changed bits.

Which part of the network is this BER valid for?
HA2NON
BER is calculated for every received radio protocol frame.

Thank you Nonoo... very helpful. Are you aware of any methods being used to perform round trip BER (inclusive of the RF links on each end and the network)?
