Hi!

I'm in the US and my cellphone carrier is T-mobile. I use my two Openspot2 in my car with my phone (Android) as an internet hotspot with no problem if the cell phone connection is LTE. But if I switch to 5G both Openspot2 can't connect to internet, both are connected to the phone hotspot but they have not internet connection.

I have a Jumbospot that hasn't that problem, the Jumbospot can reach the internet connection and works fine using both, LTE and 5G.

Any ideas of what can be the issue??

Thank you!

Txema, kj4ebe.
Try looking at device log on the Status page of the web interface to find out what is preventing the OS2 to reach the internet. You may also try enabling "Override DHCP DNS servers" on the Network page.
Thank you for your answer.

I tried enabling "Override DHCP DNS servers" but it didn't work. I post a copy of the device log in case you can see something of interest there.

Seems like the Wi-Fi AP or the service provider is blocking UDP access to the internet.
Try turning off any firewalls, or try switching off 5G on the phone so it will use the 4G network. If this fixes the issue then ask your phone service provider about this UDP blocking.
Thank you for your answers to my issue.

4G in my area is having issues too and that's why I was trying to use 5G. For what it can worth, what I found out is that T-mobile is blocking 5G UDP on mobile hotspots to limit the use of real-time services like, online gaming, voice applications and other low latency applications in order to liberate bandwidth for their new 5G Home Internet service.

    This thread saved the day!

Turning off 5G cell service on my T-Mobile phone fixed the weird intermittent connection issues with my Openspot2!

Setting up a phone hotspot is pretty basic stuff. I had tweaked every setting I could possibly think off. My old AT&T 4G/LTE phone worked just fine. I couldn't figure out why my openspot2 would just randomly lose connection while driving down a highway I knew had good cell service. It's because I was switching service between 5G and lesser service.

That's kind of sneaky of T-Mobile to block UDP connections. It's like artificially inflating the bandwidth performance of their super highway by saying only green cars can drive on it. Of course it will have more bandwidth if it's not being used. I find that highly misleading.

WTF!! I just paid $360 device that won't connect to my car's (UConnect) wi-fi's hotspot? 2024 and we are still selling 2.4 gig only devices? I can't bring my car's hotspot to 2.4gig which defeats the whole purpose of this device!

HA2NON 5G is not the same thing as 5GHZ
Two totally separate things. Once is a network throughput thorough muxing the other is 802.11 TYPE

All the openSPOTs 2, 3 and 4 are 2.4GHz WiFi only.
