Finally got it. Problem in email instructions to me about running manual firmware upgrade. You say page-top. I wasn’t scrolling down so all I was ever seeing was the video with the music."
This from an OS2 user who is now up and running. It appears you are not getting the OS3 into bootloader mode and putting the firmware file from the download link in the right place. The firmware too old message is from the sharkrf.link server, your unit ID is reaching the server, it says you need newer firmware.
For the manual update you need to follow the instructions at:

and then scroll down to:
I want to manually upgrade the firmware
and download this file:
https://img.sharkrf.com/api/v1/images/6180345dcb18328a4b271b9e/blob
and follow the further instructions.
Suggestion to SharkRF, add an anchor link to this section of the troubleshooting page in the manual, it seems to cause a lot of confusion.
