I am trying to upgrade my Openspot 3 firmware because I got a message saying the firmware on my openspot3 is to old. I am following the instructions outlined in the user manual and I have done the following:
Downloaded the file
Plugged in my Openspot3 to my windows 11 computer using a USB cable
Pressed both buttons on the openspot3 for at least 10 seconds
Got the steady white light
Released the buttons and got the yellow light (flashing)
The problem is the BOOTLOADER flash drive does not appear anywhere on my computer. I checked the main screen and checked for the drive using file explorer.
I also get a "
USB device not recognized. The last USB device connected malfunctioned
" error message.
How do I fix this issue so I can upgrade my Openspot3 and use it?

Flashing yellow status LED means that the OS3 is trying to enumerate but it can't complete the process. Please use a different USB port on the computer and/or a different USB cable.

I am also getting the 'Firmware too Old' warning when connecting to my OpenSpot3 with the Shark RF Link webpage. I have installed the new firmware. My OpenSpot3 completed the process, and when I reboot it connects to the room that I previously selected. The OpenSpot 3 transmits, announcing the room connection to my Yeasu FT-70D.
I am unable to connect to this OpenSpot3 to change the room I would like to connect to.

Do you see the file SUCCESS.TXT after the firmware upgrade process has completed (LED turned to solid green after red/green flashing)?

Re: Openspot 3 will not configure
Post by w8jvp » Tue Jan 25, 2022 5:04 pm
I had Openspot3 working properly. In the process of attempting to add a hotspot IP node #2 the Openspot3 "locked up" in the Openspot3 AP mode and nothing I have done has solved the problem. I can no longer get the Openspot 3 to connect to my local internet access router and it has impacted my computer keyboard - will not accept keyboard input without pushing the key mulitple times( some times it works, sometines it does not. That's why I am typing this on a different computer attached to my local router/internet access. Since I can not get it out of the AP mode I can not get it to run on this compute either. Just sets and flash the white light at me!! Help

Can you connect to the Wi-Fi network called "openSPOT3 AP" using your phone or a tablet or a computer?

Is this the latest firmware as it doesn't tell me to upgrade ?
Noticed when I do a full screen on my Status page and click on the TOOLS tab and my screen goes back to the other size and nothing happens with tools and not down the sides. Do I need to upgrade my Firmware ? Don't see a manual upgrade either.
Thank you
Kenny

Please upgrade the device firmware manually.
You can find the manual upgrade instructions in the user manual:

("I want to manually upgrade the firmware" section)

Thank you, worked perfect.

@HA2NON, please help. I'm having the same problem as others have recently posted about. I was able to manually upgrade the openspot 3 software without any problem by following the instructions in the manual, and it's now working again but I can't change the room because it won't let me access the software. When I put in the RF link and put in my device ID it keeps saying my software is too old. But it's not, it works, but basically I'm stuck in the same room as before the upgrade. Please help, thanks! -Adam

I think you missed the step after upgrading to reset it to recognize the upgrade. I followed exactly the manual and waited on the lights and worked. Matter of fact it auto updated itself a couple of day to the newest firmware. Give it another try.

thanks, I'll give it a try, although I believe I followed the steps exactly as well. I don't see where it says the device needs to reset. thanks for the suggestion, -73

You're right, I HAD missed a step, which was to copy the download file into that bootlogger directory. Now that I've done that I can get past the login page, but then it gets stuck on a blue screen - all blue, no information. Suggestions???

What status LED color do you see on the device now?
