My ISP offers Eero routers as a premium device, I have never taken them up on this offer because I can't find out much about how much control I have within the router firmware.
Some time ago I took a punt on the Google WiFi router after using Drayteks for a long time, these are not the Nest devices but the previous version. So far they have done what I need and all of my openSPOTs seem to have no trouble with the mesh of 3 APs that are installed. They were not bought from an ISP, so I think they have the standard firmware. I am pretty sure that some ISPs do lock down the Eero devices they supply, the reason being because it limits their tech support problems. Doesn't help people with unusual requirements, and very few of us are network specialists to the extent we can work out what packets are allowed through or dropped.
SharkRF are a small outfit, they're limited in how much support they can obtain and I suspect that the 2.4GHz WiFi modules they use have not had firmware updates recently so they're either working as intended or not able to be tweaked to work around all the various APs and routers out in the wild.
