Direct Repeater Access

Greetings
Iam the new owner of a new ID-52A Plus Icom radio and an OpenSpot 4.
I do not have a local D-Star repeater in my area!
I would like to know, if I can use my OpenSpot 4 to connect to the D-Stars repeaters in the ID-52a pros repeater list. I have already connected a number of reflectors and want to know if I can contact regular repeaters. If so how???

Simply use the gateway setting instead of reflector on the Connectors tab.

You may need to register another DSTAR module and use that as the gateway's module.

Please elaborate-- I switched to "gateway" and selected W2TXB - 74.69.58.49
Not sure what I do next - I am newb.
What do I next select next -- "to" and " from" to communicate with a repeater???

How & where do I register? How many modules do I need tor register?

I'd suggest having a look at the various videos from K9WLW on Youtube, he covers also sorts of openSPOT and Pi-Star features with various radios including the recent Icom DSTAR radios with DR mode.

As for the registration, have a look here:

Not sure how you registered for DSTAR originally, but this will allow you to add new modules as needed once you create and account.

Below is the segment from the manual.
I want connect to a repeater from the Icom repeater list but I am confused still.
Is URCaLL the same as "TO" ? Where do I get the gateway callsign- is it from the repeater I want to contact? I just registered my call sign and it is WA2ANG Z. It don't understand where I put my call in this setup.

I also noticed that under the Connector tab you can select reflector or gateway.
I don't understand do I switch to gateway and how/what do I select?

I have an ID-52A plus & OpenSpot 4.
Please more help needed

If you want to use a gateway, set the URCALL on your radio to the gateway's callsign and remote module. The remote module should be the last character of the URCALL. Make sure you have registered your local module on the D-STAR® gateway registration system. If you have a registration, you have probably registered the "space" local module. In this case set your openSPOT4's local module to a space (empty) character.

I am a newb to D- Star and need a little extra help, as not too much is obvious to me.
I have an ID-52A Plus and a OpenSpot 4. I have no local D- Star repeater, I want to get to a gateway in order to access Icom repeaters. Your excerpt below is difficult for me to understand, so I need additional clarification.
You say, set the URCALL to the gateway's callsign and remote module. Where do you actually set these parameters? What screen, where? I have registered my call recently WA2ANG Z. Note: when I use reflectors WA2ANG D is associated with the Openspot 4. What is the "space" local module? Where do I use this empty "space" character? Where do I Use the "WA2ANG Z in the new settings?

In this case I set your openSPOT4's local module to a space (empty) character.

tpetruzz The URCALL/your call setting is in your transceiver's menu. Set the gateway's callsign and remote module there.

Use WA2ANG as the callsign on the openSPOT web interface, at the REF/XRF connector settings. You can enter Z as the local module at the REF/XRF connector settings. 1st ---- I went to to the (Menu) button on my ID-52a then pressed (SET), then pressed the called sign button, here is what
It shows: URCALL:CQCQCQ
R1:WA2ANG D
R2: not used
MY:WA2ANG / TOM
Under the page I cannot select or change anything!!

2nd item---- I went to the web interface as suggested underREF/XRF
And entered Z as you mentioned and the web interface accepted it.
So now what do I do next?

Remember - I want to gain access to a repeater from the Icom list to communicate not a reflector!

Can I now go to (Memory) and select from the ( repeater list) to choose a remote repeater??
If so what is my next step??

So now going back to the web interface
What if anything do I need to change to access a remote repeater?

If you want to use a gateway, set the URCALL on your radio to the gateway's callsign and remote module. The remote module should be the last character of the URCALL. So if you want to talk on gateway callsign A1BCD module Z then set the URCALL to A1BCD..Z (replace the 2 dots with spaces, so Z is the last character) on your transceiver.

If your openSPOT is connected to the desired gateway (indicated by green status LED) then you can press PTT and talk.

OpenSpot has a great product, but support leaves much to be desired!,
OpenSpot needs to better document their new features. Iam trying to access repeaters from the Icom list, it is not obvious how to do this in the manual. How about a guide for new users! My questions are still not answered after 1- week of trying - not helpful and frustrating!
Has someone on this forum actually used an Icom ID-52A Plus and an OpenSpot 4 pro to access repeaters from the Icom repeater list? If so, can someone walk a newb through this?. Or is forum just for D-Star snobs?

In case you want to connect to a gateway, then yes, activate the REF/XRF connector in Gateway mode. Enter a space character as the local module (you can also try Z, if you haven't registered the space character, which is recommended) and set the remote module to the module you want to talk on.

Next, What do I need to do on the radio, to get to the repeaters. Can I use the "TO" and "FROM" buttons "program" the radio at the point? Please list the steps that need to be done.

Use simplex mode on your transceiver. Set the URCALL on your radio to the gateway's callsign and remote module. The remote module should be the last character of the URCALL.
