That doesn't help if you've just opened the box and have never connected it to wifi in the first place, or if you're away from home and need to set it up on a new wifi network, and you need the MAC address in order to set up a DHCP reservation or to add it to an "allowed devices" list on a restrictive network.
Every piece of wifi-enabled equipment I've ever owned, including my OpenSpot 4, OpenSpot 2, and two OpenSpot 1's, has had a sticker on the back, bottom, and/or box, containing the MAC address. I don't know if leaving it off of the M1KE's stickers was an accidental oversight, or if somebody decided not to include the MAC addresses, but there are cases wher ethe MAC address is needed. Adding it to the unit's network settings screen, or to an "about this device" screen with the serial number and firmware versions, would mean you wouldn't have to send out new stickers (and people wouldn't need to make their own, which is what I've done).
For others who may read this ... you can get the MAC address without connecting to wifi, by connecting a USB cable from the M1KE to your computer, connecting to it a serial port, and using the inf
command.
Thanks.
