APRS Chat missing Message Number

As far as I've seen, my APRS Chat doesn't send a message number when using APRS Chat.

a) is this true?
b) if it is, then many digipeaters will reject (and some have already) the packets due to the inability to calculate duplicates.

Is there, if this is true, a fix on the horizon?

The openSPOT4 sends both APRS group and private messages according to the specification (private messages are numbered and acknowledged).
