HA2NON I have Verizon Business Internet Gateway(V-BIG) service providing internet connectivity at home. Basically a dedicated, location based cellular router for multi-device connection to the internet. Additionally, I have Verizon cellphone service.
When the M1KE is connected to V-BIG, I am able to operate EchoLink flawlessly, as intended. I am able to connect my computer, iPad, or iPhone and utilize the M1KE interface software without issue. However, when connecting the M1KE via hotspot access to the iPad or iPhone, EchoLink will not connect. This holds true whether the iPad or iPhone is connected to V-BIG for internet service, or directly to a 5G cellular tower.
Considering the above, like others in this thread, I also use the EchoLink app on my IPad and IPhone, as well as the Windows download on my PC. The app RepeaterPhone offers EchoLink access as well, which I have also used. In both cases, I am able to access and operate EchoLink without issue on any device, regardless of how I am connecting to the internet.
My elephant in the room is the response that “Cell phone providers may filter these RTP/RTCP packets…”. This is confusing. If this were the case, that would mean cellular companies would only be filtering these packets when sent via a M1kE device. And, if that holds true, there has to be something different about the packets being created by the M1KE so as to allow cellular companies to isolate these packets and block only the ones sent by a M1KE.
Just someone trying to find a logical understanding of the EchoLink mystery. My apologies if I am totally missing the mark.
