5 GHz WiFi

Please consider adding 5 GHz WiFi to future products. An increasing number of cars are shipping with built-in hotspots, but some only support 5 GHz WiFi. This isn't the fault of SharkRF, but future OpenSpots will be more attractive if they support 5 GHz.

Thanks for a great product! I love my OpenSpot2.

Hello all

I fully agree with this request, since we are at it, why not add the 6Ghz band too?

OpenSpots 1 and 2 are great products, keep it up!

Hmmm, I work for the organization that sets the rules on Wifi Hotspots in cars till 2027 and its mandatory that they have 2.4 till 2027. Where did you get this information that they are only shipping 5Ghz wifi? I think your comments are made up.

Well think again. If your claim is accurate the manufacturers aren't all listening to your organization. Or I had a faulty product. Either way you assertion about making up a statement is baseless and just plain rude.

Nope, isnt rude, just fact checking your comment and its bull. That's all... 2.4 gig is here to stay and plenty sufficient for this application.

Completely uninteresting who works for which organization and what they tell. The fact is that today 2.4 GHz is very crowded, especially in metropolitan areas. And in 2020 it should already be installed with such a 2.4Ghz / 5Ghz WLAN device. Apart from that, the OpenSPOT3 only connects with a maximum of 65/65 Mbit anyway, which of course is completely sufficient for these digital operating modes in amateur radio, but it tells me that the WLAN chip in there is not a rocket. But I also think PMF (Protected Management Frames) is very important (so that no other can't shoot them from the outside  see: https://youtu.be/p0KJ3HE6g8k German Only) and WPA3.

The GS2200M modem installed in the OpenSpot3 is only capable of 802.11n 2.4ghz operation.. maybe a newer OpenSpot4 ;)

I do agree that it would be an advancement to move up to 5ghz or greater for the future

I am not arguing either point except for the guy that stated that "but some cars are being shipped only support 5 GHz WiFi". That's bull. In the US, its a requirement to carry that in vehicles, even imports.
