digitalvoice: First of all, who is "we"? Are you some kind of leader of a group? Or some kind of messiah?
Speak for yourself. Maybe YOU don't want it. And it is very simple: don't want it, don't use it a.k.a. don't upgrade to newer firmwares possibly offering that functions. Ultimately, everything except death is optional.

Does Microsoft still put out updates for Windows XP? Nope. That's how things do. New hardware and software advances replace older hardware and software. Progress. No company can support their products (hardware or software) forever. There is nothing that says that a company HAS to do so.

There are only a few options: (1) continue to use & enjoy your OpenSpot 1 as is, (2) buy the OpenSpot 2 or (3) stop using your OpenSpot (1 or 2) and move on with a new hotspot.

Progress.

What a stupid answers. Windows XP release was many many years ago, how can you compare this with the OpenSPOT? Btw, security updates for Windows XP were supported up to 2017 and Windows 7 is still supported.

As far I remember, HA2NON stated earlier that options available in openspot 2 will become available for the OpenSPOT 1 too (hardware restrictions excluded).
So basically I expect a firmware update for the OpenSPOT 1.
If not, we do better forget SharkRF due to lack of long term support and switch to PI-Star that offers a continuous support and enhanced features free of charge.

Re: Firmware Updates? OpenSource Please!

Yes, please open source the SharkRf openspot-1 project.

This would be quite nice, especially after such a short end of life period.

An Open Source Project after end of official support would be quite nice after a lot of
people changed from DV4mini to OpenSpot due to the fact that the developer was not able to write at least a mmdvm cross driver for further use. A second situation like this with OpenSpot 1 will harm believing in ham spirit....
