Kenwood th-d74

Post by scubanut » Mon Feb 06, 2017 2:53 pm

Hi,

I am currently using my th-d74 in DV mode connected to the openspot.

If I used my radio in DR mode, would the openspot then accept link, unlink commands etc. ?

Thanks,

Ken

What do you mean by DR mode? Digital mode?
You can change reflectors as described in the user manual.
In the latest beta firmware you can also change profiles using your radio.

In the Kenwood TH-D74 for Dstar, you can either use DV mode or a repeater list (called DR mode).
I have just watched a video by DonW6GPS on YouTube where he edits the repeater list in the radio, by adding a new entry which is then used by his DVAP.

On the radio, in DR mode, you can then select Link, Unlink etc. and then change reflectors on the radio controls.

I was wondering if this would work with the openspot?

Thanks,

Ken

I don't know how that radio works, but openSPOT can be easily used with an Icom ID51. Unlinking is not supported, because openSPOT is designed to be aways connected, so there is no point in unlinking.

I use the D74 and did try using the DR mode. It worked to change to REF001 C for example but it was not possible to change to DCS005 B for example. I have simply saved the reflectors that I wish to use in the callsign list under memory in the main menu. These can then be selected under destination select in the digital menu. A short call will then change the reflector on the OpenSPOT. I then select 'Local CQ' under the same menu list to communicate. This appears to be the best way to make changes to the reflector from the D74. Edited to add that this is in DV mode.

You can change between REF and DCS servers by changing openSPOT profiles (set one profile with the DCS connector and another with the REF connector).

Thanks Norbert. I'm not sure that I would use profiles to do that. The method I described above works well for my needs with the D74. I am simply using a memory list which enables me to quickly use the method of starting a short call as described in the OpenSPOT manual. I think that this may answer the OP's question?

Hi All!

I used to have an Icom ID-51 for years and can control it perfectly. But now here on my table I have a D74. Programming it is a total mess for me.... so different.

I try (with no success) to get to the position in the D74, where I can edit the fields:

UR:
R1:
R2:
MY:

I can't´t find this menu. Not in DV nor in DR mode...

Any help would be very appreciated.
Thanks in advance .
Jens
