OpenSpot stops responding after a few hours (never worked steadily)

Post by caliham » Fri Sep 30, 2016 8:44 pm

Hello,

I am having the following issue with the OpenSpot.

First, some hardware information:
* Model: SRF-OSP-1.1 433 US
* Hardware version: v1.1 (433)
* Software version: 0057
* Bootloader version: 0004
* MAC address: FE:28:9D:xx:xx:xx
* Device ID: 9D0Cxxxx

Symptoms:
After a few hours of utilization, purely listening on a BrandMeister talkgroup, only a solid green status LED is on, with a randonly blinking eth traffic LED. Despite still traffic on the TalkGroup, nothing is transmitted. And the OpenSpot is no longer ping-able, and doesn't respond to a web interface request.
If the power is removed, and put back in; the OpenSpot operates again as expected for a few hours.

This has been going on every day, since I have the device a few weeks ago. Never had more than 4 or 5 hours of stability on the device

Anyone has an idea of how to fix it ?

Thanks!

Hello,

Can you please try it with another power supply?

Thank you for your response. I saw the power supply that comes with the SharkRF is a 0.1A.
I used the powersupply of my Raspberry Pi 3 which is a 0.4A.

Plugged in at 6:30PM, everything worked fine. Came to check at 9:30PM, it had frozen already. No more ping response. This time the LEDs are:
* Status: solid geen
* Act: solid green
* Modem: off
* Eth: randomly blinking.

PS: note I have already tried to factory reset. As a matter of fact, I had to factory reset the first day because this unit was not taking a DHCP IP. After the first reset, it did and worked just like described. After the firmware upgrade, the symptoms have stayed the same: stable for a few hours and stops responding.

Please advise.

Thanks.

Have you tried a factory reset? Always a good thing to do after a firmware update by the way.

Hello,

As indicated in my previous message, I have tried a factory reset already (before and after the firmware upgrade), and the problem is still present.

Last time I rebooted the device was when I wrote my last message (about 4h ago) and the OpenSpot is already frozen. No response to ping. LED status is:
* Status: solid green
* Act: off
* Modem: off
* Eth: randomly blinking.

I'm going to reboot it again, which will make it work for another 2~4 hours, but this is not workable.
What else can we try to make this stable and work without freezing ?

Thanks.

After restarting the OpenSpot and going to the web interface, I saw that a new firmware has become available. So I did the following:

* factory reset
* ugprade to firmware to srf-osp-1.1-0058.bin
* upon SUCCESS, unplug, and plug back in with factory reset
* configure the connector and switch (homebrew DMR / brandmeister)

i'm staying in listening mode to a talkgroup. let's see how long it will stay up...

My openSPOT monitoring 4400 on BrandMeister disconnects after a period of time.
The status page indicates "Connected to N/A"
The only way I can guarantee connection is to put 4400 into "Auto connect to" in advanced settings.
Hardware version 1.1
Software version 58
Hope this helps.

Not sure exactly at what time it happened, but the OpenSpot is frozen again.
- no ping
- LED: Status + ACT = solid green , modem = off, eth = randomly blinking

Please advise.

Thanks!

Froze 3 times today. Each time is about 2~4 hours before it freezes and requires a complete OFF/ON powercycle.

According to what I hear, this is not a normal behavior.

Can you please ship a replacement ?

Froze again. Powercycled. Will work again for a couple of hours.

Please advise.
