Openspot 1 not receiving

Post by VE3WCZ » Thu Oct 17, 2019 12:04 am

Hi
I got an openspot 1 about a year ago. For the first few months it worked great. It's been sitting unplugged for the last 2 or 3 months.
I went to start using it again and I'm having an issue.

I'm running an Icom ID 5100A and I can receive the transmission from my openspot 1 just fine. However my openspot 1 doesn't hear my Icom ID 5100. It doesn't transmit out to the repeaters or reflectors.

Once in a while if I change the frequency used by the openspot everything works fine for a day, then back to the same problem.

Any thoughts on what I might try?

Please note I am on the following versions.
Hardware version v1.1(433)
Software version 0141
Bootloader version 0004

Thanks
Chuck

Do you hear yourself back using the openSPOT's local echo service?

Start a call to the local echo callsign (by default it’s …….E (7 spaces and an E, replace dots with spaces), this can be changed on the Settings page), and openSPOT will play back the recorded voice. Calls started on the local echo callsign won’t get sent to the network.

Make sure the connector is connected while doing the local echo test (the OS1 needs this).

HI

I did the echo test and it worked.

However I did need to change the frequency on the openspot as it has been more than a few hours since it was last used.

Once I changed the frequency it worked fine. But I would bet that in a few hours it won't work again without changing the frequency.

The frequencies I switch between are 436 and 437 if that helps.

Thanks
Chuck

If the local echo test works, then test the connection between your transceiver and the server using a server's echo service, like REF001/E. Make sure you've set the urcall to CQCQCQ on your transceiver.

Hi

It did work, but I had to reboot the openspot several times before it picked up the signal from my radio.

It seems like the receive side of the openspot goes to sleep. I still hear others transmissions, just mine never seems to make it through. Unless I reboot the openspot or change the frequency.

I did notice an improvement when I set the Time-Out Timer to 30 minutes where I had it set to "off" before. Not sure if that makes a difference or not. I also set the "TX Call Sign" to be "My Call Sign". These two setting seem to keep the openspot awake and listening for my radio transmission.

Does that make any sense to you?

I appreciate all the help you're giving. Let me know if there is anything else I should look at.

Thanks again

Try switching RX/TX frequencies, and also make sure your transceiver is outputting enough TX power.
