Good Web Address Needed to Do Setup

Post by K7GDM »

I realize we are in the dark anymore regarding instructions when buying anything (mostly) on the foreign market, but Openspot (Blue Box) provide decent instructions but they provided little help regarding what ip address to use after predicting that the domain names/websites would not work. I've had this thing for a few years on the shelf so maybe the directions have changed?

Can someone please advise me on a good internet address so I can do the setup process for this hotspot and get my newest DMR repeater on a hill and out of the house? I understand this SharkRF Openspot should allow for that.

Thanks in advance,

You can find the user manual for the OS1 here: https://www.sharkrf.com/products/opensp ... cy/manual/
You can open the web interface of the device by entering http://openspot.local/ into your browser.

I appreciate your response and willingness to help. However, the link "http://openspot.local" and the other web option "http://openspot/" go absolutely nowhere. If .local is the link to the GUI page, it's inoperable. They are dead servers for all intents. I have the original user manual and downloaded the PDF recently looking for changes but don't see any other than update notices that I can't take advantage of until I have access to the correct site. But all of that is redundant, I think.

I guess what I need now is the IP address they make mention of in the manual.

Thx again,

What LED colors do you see on the device?

Dave,
The IP address for your openspot is assigned by your router when you connect the power and ethernet cables. Your computer must also be using the same router as the openspot, it can be connected either via ethernet or wifi.
Most times the openspot.local address will then find it, but other times it won't and you'll need to access your router's setup to find it's list of connected devices which should also tell you what IP address it assigned to the openspot.
There are also some third party free utilities available that will search your local network and list the IP addresses of every device connected to it should you have a problem accessing the list from your router.
Hope that helps a little, we've all had to go through this and once it clicks, it will make more sense.
