DMR Openspot app

Post by IO70KE » Sat Feb 10, 2018 1:09 pm

Just a suggestion,
How about reproducing the Openspot as an iPhone app and adding a software DMR radio to it?
No need to buy any hardware, easily upgradeable, no manufacturing or distribution costs.

You would need radio hardware, the iPhone doesn't have any transceiver that could provide a DMR frame rate and modulation. That would have to be external.

BlueDV and DVmega/Bluestack implement this on Android.

I was not suggesting the iPhone would transmit on ham bands. No transceiver is necessary to do this, only WiFi. Echolink app has this, and Mototrbo app. There are many “walkie-talkie” apps that do this.

So the app would also require an AMBE licence to perform the codec function, that would involve some cost.

Personally I prefer there to be some actual radio involved.
