Alternate use of hardware: Use as dataradio/ethernet bridge.

It would be really cool/nice if TWO openshark devices could be used as a low speed low bandwidth
dataradio or ethernet bridge over 70cm radio.

Is this even possible and is it a large amount of work?

Today ham radio does not have really good long range/narrow bandwidth dataradio options available that are affordable that I know of.
And packet radio has not at all progressed since the mid-90's here in the US.
Motorola/iDEN (Narrow band QAM digital radio) was available commerically in 1997-on and offered 64Kbps in a "regular" 25KHz NBFM radio channel with comparable RX sensitivity figures for 1%BER as we have in DMR DSTAR and YSF.
Digital ham radio and packet has never really caught up or progressed in that way yet.
Even in 2018 we are still using 9600baud FSK and 4FSK to transport.. voice. :)
and sub quality sounding voice at that.

Cheers!
I feel more like I do now.
