Kerchunking be gone.

Post by dgmaley » Mon Sep 17, 2018 12:33 am

One of the features of Brandmeister DMR dynamic talk groups is that an operator must perform a quick key press to complete a connection. Some of these talk groups can be popular and result in endless ‘kerchunking’.
Would it be possible to arrange that traffic coming from the internet that has a message length shorter than a specified amount, be dropped instead of being passed on to the modem?
Thank you for continuing support on your legacy product and good luck with your new.

Talkgroup/reflector linking is done by the server, not the openSPOT. The openSPOT has to forward your kerchunk to the server in order to link the desired TG/reflector. This should be changed on the server side, or there should be a Homebrew protocol command to link/unlink TG/refs (there is no such command yet, but I'll ask the BM dev team again for it).

Yes, with the current server configuration, OpenSpot must send out each keypress, but that is not what I was talking about.
Suspect writing software would be easier than talking to Brandmeister.

Good luck.

Currently all connected devices (repeaters, hotspots) need to kerchunk to dynamically link a talkgroup, this is the way how BrandMeister servers work.

Yes,
but does your open-spot have to pass EVERY one of them on to the nearby radio?
