Can an external power supply rated 5v max output 1a be used with the open spot 2

Yes. From the manual:
  • Power supply: 5 V DC through the USB port
  • Power consumption:
    • Max. 150 mA @ 5 V (0.75 W)
    • Avg. 115 mA @ 5 V (0.575 W)
    • Avg. 65mA @ 5 V (0.325 W) with enabled powersaving

In case there is any confusion:

Max. 150 mA = .15 amp
Avg. 115 mA = .115 amp
Avg. 65mA = .065 amp (with enabled powersaving)

Good point. And to simplify it even more: 1 ampere (A) = 1000 milliamperes (mA). So a 5V wall charger providing 1A of current provides about 6 times (1000/150=6.667) the power an openSPOT2 needs at maximum power consumption.

|I have powered mine for Ravpower block. usb port on laptop and standard usb multipotrt charger - just be careful about using cheap asian imports
