Upgrades take forever

Post by KD9NOV » Mon Jun 03, 2019 11:40 am

Is there something I can do so speed up the process? Callsign updates, firmware updates take forever to download & at times just stop all together. It doesnt seem to matter what wifi I'm connected to - at first I thought it was a cellular problem as I use this mainly on the go. Checked at home with a gigabit connection with the same results.

Takes anywhere from 10-20 min to download a 4mb file? At times it also just stops & tells me there is an upgrade available, i start again. This morning took about 30 min to update the callsign database.

Downloading updates are the lowest priority tasks the device do so they won't interfere with normal operation and also won't consume much power.

We've made adjustments in firmware v41 so stalled downloads won't get interrupted so easily.

I am on V41 - seems to be the same. Would be nice to just power through it and get it over with. While I understand the low priority - perhaps start a timer watching idle time, then kick off a cron or scheduled task to download and install quickly if the modem isnt active?

Is there a way to do this manually?

Considering that the amount of data is perhaps only in the double digit megabytes....it would only take a couple seconds to download the database. I would suspect the same for firmware. Most folks have 4G or high speed internet at home so I think we are beyond the days of 56K dial up modems and should just do the download at full speed

I know the OS2 already can be set to a certain time to do the downloads so at that scheduled time, just do it quick and be done.

Please contact us at info@sharkrf.com and we'll send you a v43 firmware which has callsign database download resume support. Please refer to this forum thread in your email.
