DMR XLX Voice Announcements

Post by dwcooley72 » Sat Jun 29, 2019 4:02 pm

I'm not seeing an option to change the XLX module A-Z, also I'm not hearing an announcement of what reflector module I'm connected to when I key the radio to change the module from B to C I see it change and connect on the dashboard but there's never any announcement when its done. Any info would be greatly appreciated. If it is there and I just need to configure it somewhere I'd like to know. If it's not an option is it possible that it could be done in a later firmware update?

Do you have the TG active to announce your connection? If not try reading the manual which explains the announcements....

The XLX server does not provide any voice announcements, and it does not report which talkgroup you have linked, so the OS2 can't announce a successful change.

To unlink the currently linked module, call DMR ID 4000. To connect to module A, call DMR ID 4001, for module B call DMR ID 4002 and so on.

Pi-star makes the announcement on DMR when you switch modules on XLX, even though it's not from the server could something be built to "make it work"?
Feels like we are going in blind on the OS2 with XLX.

As far as we know, MMDVM-based devices announce the module which you've called (or set in the configuration as the startup module), which may not be the module you are linked to on the server.

The server does not acknowledge or send the actually linked module information to the client, so there is no way to tell that you are linked to the desired module.

I'll ask the maintainer of the XLX server if there is a way to query the linked module from the server.

Luc LX3JL confirmed that currently there is no way to query the actually linked module information from the server, so it may differ what MMDVM-based devices announce.

I'll try to add this module query feature into the XLX server in the following weeks so we can implement proper voice announcements.

Nice! I have been playing around with XLX and have noticed that when I am on XLX020A it is connected to REF20A and XREF20 but I have seen in some cases that the modules are not always matched up between the different modes. But as long as the end user knows they are on lets say XLX20A and they know what modules it connects to on other modes, it should be easy enough to understand.
