Effect of an RX group list

Post by Bob K » Wed Feb 13, 2019 4:14 pm

DMR newbie here. I'm using a TYT 380 linked to BM. I have an RX group list defined, containing several groups. (I read somewhere that an RX list can be helpful, or it can confuse the heck out of you.) i keyed TAC 310. (TG 3139 Ohio is also in the RX list, along with 310.)

Question 1: How does the BM server know that 3139 Ohio is in my list - or does it?

I later keyed TG 3139 Ohio. I can see on the SharkRF status screen that I keyed 3139.

Question 2: What happened to 310? Is it still active? Can I be active in more than one TG at a time? It looks like that was happening since I'm seeing 310 and 3139 calls intermingled on the status screen.

Question 3: Am I correct in thinking that sending 4000 would cancel both groups?

Obviously, I have some confusion about acquiring and dropping groups.

Thanks! Bob

1. The network does not know anything about the RX group list.

If a DMR radio receives a group call then it will open the squelch only if the group call's destination ID is the current channels TX contact or it's in an RX group list which is assigned to the current channel. Otherwise the call won't be put to the radio's speakers.

2. It depends on the network. The BrandMeister Network supports auto static talkgroups, which means the first talkgroup you call after calling TG4000 will be displayed as dynamic but it will stay linked until you call TG4000 again. Other talkgroups you call after the first TG will be linked dynamically which means they will be unlinked after a timeout (usually 15 minutes, depending on server configuration).

TG310 is possibly linked as auto static so it will stay linked.

My advise is to only use one linked TG at a time. This avoids confusion and you won't miss any calls (the network only sends one call at a time, if another call from another TG starts while one is being transmitted to your hotspot then the network will not transmit that call).

3. Calling TG4000 unlinks all dynamic talkgroups.
