I was reading today about D-Star from various sites I have found and the SharkRF manual and have a few questions related to "properly" setting up my FT-5DR to cross-connect to D-Star.

Here is a snippet from the above link The software used to run the XLX reflectors actually speaks all three previous protocols REF, XRF, DCS and additionally its own protocol which is only used to interconnect reflectors together. As a side note, XLX reflectors are very versatile and can also be accessed through DMR and Fusion with full audio transcoding. For the sake of clarity, this aspect will not be covered here. My questions are specific to the audio transcoding part of the above statement. Since OS4 Pro Pro does hardware audio transcoding, what is the best way to set up OS4 Pro in my case so it will not be transcribed twice? Maybe I am misunderstanding something? Should I set up a new profile D-Star configured as
C4FM/REF/XRF or C4FM/DCS/XLX? I am not sure if "C4FM/Gateway" applies to me and when I should use it.

Module A - Transcoding. Main Channel.
Module B - DMR Backup and Clustering
Module C - D-Star - D-RATS Data and Voice.
Module D - DMR Default. Nothing formal yet.
Module P - DMR/YSF POTA use. Parks on the Air! If I go with the newer DSC/XLX, should I select Module A or always C to prevent "double transcoding".
Please explain where my assumptions are wrong? What is the best option to select?
